In 1993, he joined the National Committee for Tourism of the Russian Federation. From 1996 to 2002, he was appointed as Russian Delegate for Tourism in Italy (Since 2000, tourism is under the authority of the Ministry for economic development and Commerce of the Russian Federation). At the same time he collaborated to the World Organization for Tourism (UNWTO) as Russian representative on the occasion of several meetings and seminars.
From 2002 to 2012, Ivan Prostakov, has been appointed Head of the Russian Economical and Commercial Representation in France. At the same time, he was delegate of the Russian Federation near the International Bureau of Exhibitions (BIE), and from 2007 to 2009 Vice-President of the organization as president of the regulations commission of the BIE.
In 2012 he became Adviser to the Secretary General of the BIE.
He is also the author of several articles and publications on the French-Russian economical relationship, the world economy and the tourism economy.
Ivan Prostakov is married and has three children.
