Thierry Mariani

Member of Parliament for the 11th ward of the French living outside France, Thierry Mariani, born August , 8, 1958 in Orange (France) is a graduate from the Institut d’études des relations internationales de Paris (Institute for international relations studies of Paris)

Mayor of Valréas from 1989 to 2005, he also was a member of the Departmental Council of the Vaucluse department, and a member of the Regional Council of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur from 1992 to 1993 and again since 2004.

He was the special representative of France for Afghanistan and Pakistan (2009-2010). A member of Parliament for Vaucluse from 1993 to November 2010, he was then nominated from November 2010, Under Secretary of State near the Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transports and Housing, in charge of Transports, then Minister from June 29, 2011 with the same tasks.

In charge of the French living abroad at the RPR party, then at the UMP party, Thierry Mariani has been elected a Member of Parliament for the French living outside France (Eastern Europe, Russia, Asia and Oceania) in June 2012. Thierry Mariani is a member of the Foreign affairs Committee and vice-President of the France-Russia friendship group.

He is also a tenured member of the French delegation to the parliamentary assembly of the European Council (APCE) and Chairman of the Committee on Migration Refugees and Displaced Persons, of the APCE.

He is a member of the French delegation near the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (ASCE) of which he is the representative for Central Asia.

Since 1995, he chairs the Opera Festival “Les Chorégies d’Orange”.
