Vladimir Yakunin

Vladimir Yakunin, born on 30 June 1948 in Melenki city, Vladimir region, Russia. In 1978 Mr. Yakunin graduated from Leningrad Mechanical University, Department for Aircraft Construction. Doctor of Political Science.
Mr. Yakunin started his career as a junior scientist at the State Institute for Applied Chemistry. Then he proceeded with state service and worked as an engineer, then senior engineer for foreign relations at the State Committee of the Council of Ministers of USSR and head of a Division at the Abraham Ioffe Institute for Physics and Technology of the Academy of Sciences of USSR.
Later on Mr. Yakunin was first and then second secretary of the Soviet Diplomatic Mission to the United Nations. Then he headed the North-Western Inspectorate of the Presidential Control Directorate of the Russian Federation.
Since 2000 Mr. Yakunin was Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation. Since February of 2002 he worked as first Deputy Minister of Railway Transport and since October of 2003 as first Vice-President of Joint Stock Company Russian Railways.
On June 14, 2005 Mr. Yakunin was appointed President of JSC Russian Railways and headed the company till August 2015. 
Today Mr. Yakunin is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Center of National Glory and Andrew the First-Called Foundation.
He is also Founding President of the World Public Forum “Dialogue of Civilizations” and Co-President of the French-Russian Dialogue Association.
Mr. Yakunin is a scientific advisor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Governance and Problem Analysis Center at the Russian Academy of Sciences.
He is also Head of State Policy Department at the Politology Faculty at Lomonosov Moscow State University.
Mr. Yakunin is a visiting professor of the Stockholm School of Economics.
He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Charity Foundation “Spread your Wings!” involved in social child care.  
Mr. Yakunin is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Russian World (Russkiy mir) Foundation.

Mr. Yakunin has been honoured with the Order for Merit to the Fatherland of the 4th class, the Medal for Military Merit and the Medal for the Development of Railways.
He holds Russian Federation Government prize in Science and Technology.
He holds the following Orders of the Russian Orthodox Church: Order of Saint Prince Vladimir of the 2nd class, Order of Saint Seraphim of Sarov of the 2nd class, Order of Venerable Andrew Rublyov of the 1st class and Order of Honour of the Russian Muftis Council of the 1st class. For his great involvement in the development of dialogue of civilizations and in the organization of the All-Orthodox prayer “Pray for the peace for Jerusalem” Mr. Yakunin has received the Order of the Holy Sepulcher of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church.
Mr. Yakunin has been also awarded the National Order of the Legion of Honour of France, the Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria, the Order of Friendship of the 2nd class (Order Dostyk) of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Order of Merit to the Italian Republic of the Grand Officer class, the Golden Medal of the La Renaissance Française Association, the Order “For Civil Services” of the Kingdom of Spain of the Grand Cross class and the First Award for Civil Service in the Interest of the Common Good of the Globalisation for the Common Good Initiative.
Mr. Yakunin also holds the Honourable Railwayman decoration. In 2000 he was awarded the International Prize of Andrew the Apostle the First-Called for his contribution to the strengthening of the Russian statehood and deep involvement in the establishment of the Centre of National Glory of Russia.
